The Istanbul Intercontinental
Last year, I was running through Istanbul Airport – not for fun, but in a desperate dash to make my connecting flight. It was a rather chaotic, one kilometer run, weaving through the sea of other travellers and proving what I heard before: You really can walk a lot between gates at that airport. This year, I shall be back in November. But this time for something more official: a 15-kilometer run that will take me from Asia to Europe, crossing the iconic Bosporus street. As far as I know, it’s the only run in the world where you literally run between continents! Frankly, I think they should rename it the "Istanbul Intercontinental" rather than just the "Istanbul Marathon." My last visit to Istanbul outside of the airport was over a decade ago, and I am looking forward to be back to have a run with no carry-on luggage on my back. Just me, a few thousand other runners, and the thrill of crossing two continents on foot.
